Pétanque England announces a new Events Group to lead planning for the 2027 programme, as John Edmondson steps down after years of dedicated service.
Some members may already be aware that John Edmondson, our long-standing Chair of Events, is stepping down from the Board and will retire fully from event management at the end of the current season, October 2026. We are extremely grateful for the commitment, expertise and leadership John has brought to the role over many years.
Such a depth of knowledge inevitably presents challenges when roles change. We are therefore very pleased that John has agreed to oversee and take full responsibility for delivering the remaining events in 2026, while also sharing his experience with a newly formed Events Group.
This Events Group will be chaired by Alesi Plummer and comprises of Sonya Davis, Di Harrington, Emma Pople, Alex Spillett and one other who wishes to remain anonymous at this stage. Together, they bring a valuable combination of experience, fresh perspectives, and enthusiasm.
Firstly, the team is already working to develop the programme for 2027, beginning with close collaboration with host clubs and the umpiring team. The Events Group will liaise with members, clubs and regions, and we encourage everyone to support them in this endeavour. This will be essential to the successful delivery of our events.
Secondly, the 2027 PE events calendar will introduce a revised format so that event communications and key information is greatly improved. The Group is committed to publishing the 2027 calendar no later than the AGM in November.
In summary, 2026 will be a year of transition, building on strong foundations for the future. We are confident that, with the support of our members, this new approach will strengthen our events programme in the years ahead.
Constructive feedback will, of course, always be welcome.
