Squad Selection Events (SSE)

About Squad Selection Events (SSE)

Pétanque England's Squad Selection Events (SSE) are a series of competitions designed to identify and select players for England's national teams in international events, primarily those organized by the European Confederation of Pétanque (CEP) and the International Federation of Pétanque (FIPJP). These events focus on the Women's, Men's, and Veterans' squads.

  • Eligibility: Participants must be members of Pétanque England (PE). Only UK nationals are eligible to compete in SSEs, in compliance with CEP and FIPJP competition requirements.
  • Competition Structure: SSEs are scheduled throughout the year and can be found in the National Calendar by searching for SSE. The competitions are held in various formats, including Singles, Doubles, and Triples, tailored to assess players' skills comprehensively.
  • Selection Process: Players' performances in SSEs are critical for selection into national squads. The results from these events are used to assess players' competencies and readiness for international competition.
  • Additional Information: Juniors and Espoirs have separate selection processes distinct from the SSEs. PE also organizes National Competitions open to members of all playing abilities and any nationality. These are stand-alone events and are separate from the SSEs.
