For some months now we have been working with our solicitors, Frettens, to develop new Articles of Association complying fully with the principles articulated by Sport England. This is a necessary first step in a potentially long road towards securing grant money to aid the development of the sport we all love.

This topic was aired at the AGM, when the idea of replacing the current (though virtually unused) ‘member-centric’ voting system with some form of ‘club-centric’ voting system was mooted. We hoped this would ultimately generate more involvement between members and PE.

I promised wide consultation before such a radical change was formally proposed and said that the adoption of these new Articles would be the subject of a special general meeting.

What follows is a summary of how our thinking has developed since then:
• Since March, we have engaged in a wide-ranging dialogue with the great majority of regional presidents as well as with many individual members. The overwhelming consensus is that we should retain the present ‘member-centric’ voting system and seek other ways of generating greater grass roots involvement.
• Your board has listened and readily accepted this consensus. So the proposed new Articles retain member voting at their core. They are also fully compliant with Sport England principles.
• The required special general meeting will be held on Saturday 30th August at the Orida Hotel in Newbury. It is of course being called in accordance with the requirements of the EXISTING Articles.

Your board strongly recommends the adoption of the new Articles and looks forward to
seeing you in Newbury.
