Sunday 29th June saw 28 teams descend on Lincoln Branleys Pétanque Club for their second Open Doubles Competition of the year—The Martin Birkhead Open Cash Prize Doubles—in what proved to be one of the hottest days of 2025 so far.
Despite the soaring temperatures, spirits remained high as players from across the East Midlands and beyond took to the terrain for five competitive rounds of pétanque. The event maintained its reputation for being both welcoming and well-run, blending friendly rivalry with high-quality play.
At the end of the day, it was Mokhatar Benarab & Abdou Fekir who came out on top, securing the first-place spot and leading a strong field of teams who all vied for the top five cash prize placements.
The event continues to draw both seasoned competitors and newcomers alike, with this year’s competition welcoming a number of players experiencing the Branleys venue for the first time—a trend the club hopes will continue.
Looking ahead, Lincoln Branleys’ final Open Competition of 2025 will take place on Sunday 19th October. With space for only 32 teams and entries already coming in, early booking is essential. Teams can reserve their place by emailing:
