Pétanque England seeks up to three new Directors with the skills and passion to help shape and grow the future of the sport.

Pétanque England is seeking up to three additional Directors to join the Board and help shape the future of our sport. Under our Articles, the Board may co‑opt Directors to fill vacancies, with those Directors eligible for election by the membership at the next AGM. We are now inviting expressions of interest from individuals who can bring energy, expertise and strategic insight to support the continued growth of pétanque in England.

About the Board

The Board comprises:

  • Up to 10 Directors elected by the membership

  • Up to 2 Independent Directors nominated by the Board

  • The ability to co‑opt Directors to fill vacancies

Directors collectively oversee the governance, strategic direction and long‑term development of pétanque across England. We are committed to building a Board with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds and experiences.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who can bring fresh perspectives, professional expertise and a commitment to helping pétanque grow across England. In particular, we welcome people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Social Media & Marketing

Individuals who can build and our digital presence across all platforms, grow engagement with members and the wider public, and modernise how we communicate. This includes developing campaigns, improving the visibility of our activities, supporting clubs with digital guidance, and helping us present pétanque as an accessible, vibrant and growing sport.

Playing Management / Sport Operations

People with experience in competition structures, player pathways, coaching, officiating, safeguarding, or club development. This may include designing or improving playing programmes, supporting volunteer‑led delivery teams, enhancing the player experience, and helping shape the sporting framework from grassroots through to elite performance.

Legal / Governance

Those with expertise in legal matters, compliance, policy development, organisational governance, risk management or safeguarding frameworks. This includes supporting the Board in ensuring robust governance, reviewing policies, advising on regulatory matters, and helping maintain the highest standards expected of a national governing body.

Beyond specific skills, we are looking for Directors who can demonstrate:

  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead or support volunteer teams

  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work constructively with fellow Directors

  • A commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance

  • Enthusiasm for helping pétanque grow at all levels — from grassroots to elite performance

We actively welcome applications from all regions of England, and are committed to widening age, gender and regional representation on the Board. A broader mix of perspectives will help us better reflect and serve our membership nationwide.

Role Expectations

Directors of Pétanque England are company directors and must demonstrate professionalism, accountability and a commitment to good governance.

A Directors Induction Pack is available for interested individuals, providing an overview of the organisation, governance responsibilities and the support available to new Directors.

Directors should expect to attend at least three face‑to‑face Board meetings and five virtual Board meetings each year, in addition to the time required to lead teams or carry out tasks assigned by the Board. This commitment is essential to ensuring effective governance and sustained development of the sport.
