The Chiltern Region held its Over 55s Regional Qualifier at Luton on a scorching day that saw both the temperature and competition levels rise. With eight teams in attendance, the event followed a two-league format, with each league consisting of four teams. The top two teams from each league progressed into the Main competition, while the remaining teams contested the Plate.
In the Main semi-finals, Les Gardner and Martin Hughes faced off against Colin Heycock and Gary Deveney, with Les and Martin securing a spot in the final. They were joined by Adrian and Myra Emson, who won their semi-final against James Gentry and “Flapper.”
The Main Final was a closely fought affair between Les & Martin and Adrian & Myra, with Adrian and Myra emerging victorious. Both finalist teams have now qualified to represent the Chiltern Region at the Over 55s Champion of Champions at Gravesend later this year.
Meanwhile, in the Plate competition, Allan Roberts and Marian Lennon triumphed over Ross Manfredi and David Ford in the first semi-final. The second semi-final saw Pete Taylor and Derek Northend defeat Christine Heycock and Sue Murray.
Allan and Marian then went on to win the Plate Final against Pete and Derek in an enjoyable conclusion to the day’s play.
