Given the current situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, Pétanque England wishes to advise our members that no events under its jurisdiction are affected at present. We note the statement this morning (9.3.20) by the Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden that UK sporting events are to continue as normal. We will continue to monitor the situation and if Government advice changes as a result of a worsening outbreak we will advise further. The PE Board meeting scheduled for 28th March will also review the situation in the round.
In the meantime, we advise all of our members to adopt Government advice with regard to hand hygiene whilst participating in our sport, as well as using tissues to catch any coughs or sneezes. We are a tactile sport and for the time being, we think it’s advisable to refrain from handshakes and kissing, adopting the ‘elbow bump’ instead .
