NewsWorld Transplant Games 2019

1st March 2019

Gateshead, near Newcastle is the venue for the 2019 World Transplant Games and we’re proud to say that pétanque is one of the official sports on offer. There will be men’s and women’s singles and doubles.

The Games brings together competitors that have undergone life supporting transplants and athletes compete by gender age groups: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70- 79 and 80 and over.

Many young people undergo transplants and and Juniors are fully involved in the Games.

Back in 2017, when the Games were held in Malaga, Spain, British athletes won medals in pétanque: Sam Clarke (Men’s Singles 18-29 age category, Bronze), Reshma Rana (Women’s Singles 30-39 age category, Silver) and Elisabeth Hosford & Juliet Lewis (Women’s Doubles, over 50, Bronze).

We’re hoping for more British medallists in 2019 and PE is involved in supporting the Games. Why not visit Gateshead between 17th to 24th August and watch the pétanque athletes in action?
